Olhos d’Agua

Olhos d’Agua, which translates to “the eyes of the water,” is perfect for honeymooners or families seeking a peaceful, relaxing vacation. The area is known for its fresh water springs chockfull of fish, observable when the tide is low among the rocks. Additionally, Olhos d’Agua has no shortage of rock pools and coves for exploring. Most of the restaurants are located on a main street that runs down a steep hill to the beach. The promenade is surrounded by palm trees, and here you will find a fine selection of both restaurants and bars.

The restaurant La Cigale has a great reputation, which its terrace views and beach location make well-deserved. Not only are the cataplana clams and other seafood superb, but if you are staying within a 5 kilometer radius, La Cigale actually transports you for free to and from your lodgings. Other notable restaurants include but are not limited to Ambrósia & Néctar, Restaurante Azul, and O' Golfinho Restaurant (it gets booked quickly during tourist season, so book in advance! Recommended bars include the California Bar, Shakers Bar, and Cabana Bar, although there are plenty more quality establishments to choose from.

Praia d’Agua is the scenic local beach, featuring gentle slopes of sand idea ideal for children, as well as umbrella pine trees on its cliffs. It is hardly ever crowded, and always populated by local fisherman who often leave their colorful boats on the sand. Fishing trips are offered, as well as dolphin-spotting jaunts, and scenic coastal boat rides. The 8-kilometer long Prai de Falesia is a nearby beach, and one of the most gorgeous in the area. Red cliffs surround it, and it heads all the way to east Vilamoura. The best beach for children in the area is Santa Eulalia, which is gentler than the others.

If you go to Olhos d’Agua during August, you will catch the Sardine Festival it hosts at the Largo dos Pescadores, which features fresh food (including grilled sardines) cooked right on the beach, as well as live music. Additionally, Olhos d’Agua and the surrounding area offer superb golf facilities, horse-riding, scuba-diving, bowling, go-karting, tennis, watersports, and more. If you tire of the coastal scene, there are even off-road jeep safaris available to take you into less familiar parts of the Algarve.

Olhos d’Agua is near Albufeira and Vilamoura, which are the places to go for nightclub action. Albufeira is only six kilometers away, and the Strip is even closer, at 3 kilometers. Walking takes about 40 minutes, but there is also regular bus service to the strip, and you can always take a taxi or rent a car. With all of the variety Olhos d’Agua and its surrounding area provides, you and your family will never be bored.
